John and Peggy Elmendorf’s Graves

For years, I wondered where they were/ are buried. Now I know.

The couple appears to be split up, buried in two locations…

John is in in the Old Somerville Cemetery, also known as the Bridge Street Cemetery, or Old Rarity Cemetery, which is part of a larger combined cemetery.

Peggy is in First Reformed Church Cemetery of New Brunswick, NJ; Lot 216.

_______________

Old Somerville Cemetery

152 South Bridge St,

Somerville, NJ 08876

908-725-1871

On S. Bridge St. between Main St. & Rt. 206

This is a very large cemetery; going north on Bridge Street.

The cemetery plots on the left represent “newer” internments, and [are] unfenced, and freely accessible.

Directly across South Bridge St., is the site of the older cemetery which consists of gravesites dating back to the earliest days of Somerset County.  This portion of the cemetery is walled (non-accessible to the general public), but it extends south to Rte 206 S for several miles.
